Community Code of Ethics

In the interest of ensuring a safe, respectful, and positive atmosphere for all, we ask that all participants of Bridge to Publishing: Reclaiming the Indigenous Narrative of Atlantic Canada pledge to uphold principles of care, consideration, and respect when dealing with one another. These guiding principles are inextricably linked to OCAP® and Etuaptmumk (Two-Eyed Seeing), the very foundations on which Bridge to Publishing is built.

No matter who you are or where you come from—whether you are a staff member of a partnering publisher or Ulnooweg Education Centre, one of the program's dedicated consultants, a youth storyteller, workshop leader or Elder—we acknowledge we build community together, empowering each participant to co-create the strongest, healthiest bridge for all—one built through knowledge-sharing, storytelling, and the celebration of diverse perspectives. Only in this way can we, with shared trust and mutual respect, move forward in the direction of truth, and reconciliation.

As such, we ask that all Bridge to Publishing participants agree to:

  • Carry out all program related activities with a high level of honesty, integrity, accountability and respect.

  • Learn from one another through curiosity, active listening, creativity, open mindedness, and compassion.

  • Remain open to everyone’s perspective and desire to contribute.

  • Respect each other's time by meeting agreed-upon commitments.

  • Communicate needs so goals may be adjusted accordingly.

  • Share concerns directly to the Steering Committee and/or Bridge to Publishing dedicated staff.

The Bridge to Publishing Indigenous Steering Committee will be empowered to revoke the participation of anyone who chooses to disregard these guidelines. Otherwise we respectfully ask all participants to honour and uphold this Community Code of Ethics through the duration of their involvement with the Bridge to Publishing program.

As we continue to work towards building a caring and inclusive storytelling community together, this code may be altered to reflect an atmosphere of continuous improvement.
